About Java



Java is an island in Indonesia and is the 13th largest in the world. With a population of around 136 million, is the most populous island in the world and is one of the most densely populated places in the world. Although only the widest ranks 5th, Java, inhabited by 60% of Indonesia's population. Indonesian capital, Jakarta, is located in western Java.

Java is a relatively young island and largely formed from volcanic activity. Rows of volcanoes form ranges running from east to west of the island, with the alluvial plains of the river in the north.

Many Indonesian history took place on this island. Previously, Java is the center of some Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms, Islamic sultanates, the Dutch East Indies colonial administration, as well as the center of Indonesian independence movement. These islands have a major impact on the social, political, and economic Indonesia.

Most of the inhabitants speak in three main languages. Java language is the mother tongue of 60 million people in Indonesia, and most of the speakers dwelt on the island of Java. Most of the population is bilingual, speaking both as a first language Indonesian or both. Two other important language is Sundanese and Malay (Betawi). Most of the population of Java are Muslims, but there are a variety of faiths, religions, ethnic groups, as well as the island's culture.
